Industry: Maintenance departments

Challenge: Reducing maintenance engineer fatigue during movement of heavy toolkit between machines while attending machine breakdown on shop floor

Background

Kshipraa Mechatronics, a pioneer in developing cutting-edge machinery and automation solutions, enables businesses to achieve operational excellence. A 2 wheeler manufacturer client’s maintenance team faced a critical challenge. Maintenance engineer is physically exhausted during movement their tool kit between machines while attending to machine breakdown.

Objective

To remove totally/reduce physically exhausted during movement their tool kit between machines while attending to machine breakdown thus improving their productivity.

Solution

Kshipraa Mechatronics designed and implemented a customised trolley. Following are major features.

  • Provision to hold maintenance tool kit firmly. Max size of tool kit is about 600mm(W) x 600mm(H) x 300mm(D). with max overall weight of 200Kg.

  • Space for 1human to stand within trolley, in addition to tool kit, while movement between machines on shop floor.

  • Powered by electric motor + battery.

  • Operation buttons on handle of trolley will enable engineer to move the trolley in desired direction (forward or backward). As long as button is pressed, the trolley will move. Moment button is released, trolley will stop movement.

  • 3 Wheeled trolley is very stable during movement.

  • Max speed of operation is 5km/hr.

Thus, we are able to address major pain points of maintenance engineers, physical fatigue both when moving the toolkit with shop floor and their own walking between machines.

Implementation

The project involved:

  • Detailed discussions with end user to understand all pain points.

  • Design and manufacture of suitable trolley that can address al their concerns at optimum costs.

  • Actual implementation on shop floor with active participation of maintenance engineers.

  • Providing operator training to ensure seamless adoption of the assisted trolley.

Results

  • Maintenance engineer fatigue has come down drastically.

  • Safe movement of maintenance engineer with their tool kit with shop floor.

  • Improved performance of maintenance engineers. Reflecting in lower machine down time.

Conclusion

Kshipraa Mechatronics successfully improved the working conditions of maintenance engineers at a highly demanding manufacturing shop floor. This assisted trolley solution enhanced workplace safety but also demonstrated Kshipraa's expertise in leveraging innovative technology to drive measurable results for its clients.
